I just love the start of a new year. So much excitement to start something new or to starting over on a goal that has been eluding us. While I am till on the journey to success, I had paused on the blogging aspect of it.
Someone said success was not just about the end goal but the journey to get there. I can truly attest to that. I am definitely not the same person who started out. This is a very exciting process
Over the last few years of “remaking myself” and “studying to show myself approved” my biggest challenge has been “NOW”….. The importance of NOW.
The late Mohamed Ali said it well; “Don’t count the days make the days count”
So did The late John Wooden; “ Make each day a masterpiece”
I cannot forget my mentor over the years, the late Jim Rohn who said; “finish the day before you start it.”
After you have decided on a goal and fully qualified WHY you want to achieve it, then worked out HOW you are going to do it, the real test it what you DO about it NOW, today.
Did the day count towards fulfilling your goal?
This little matter of now, has been my biggest challenge. You see i am travelling from a place of procrastination. This is indeed the biggest “thief of time”
So on my journey, I have met, worked with and observed my teachers and mentors on this matter of acting now. Can’t say I am totally over procrastinating, but I am aware and countering. I tell you that even in writing and posting this blog today, I am on it.
My challenge this year is to make every day count towards my goals… A masterpiece day. My mindset is , I can and I will.

Two studies have come out since the beginning of the year to update us on the health of the World.
The first one says that obesity is growing among our adults and children at an alarming rate. There are more overweight than underweight people in the world.
The other study says 1 in 11 adults worldwide are diabetic. This level of affected people has the potential to bankrupt the healthcare system of many countries.
The call is for governments to do something about the situation, and I agree they should. However, it is our health that will be affected, it is our families and households that will be affected and we can do something now. The food industry will fight all attempts to make it change even harder than the cigarette industry did when governments tried to change it.
We can do something now to change our lifestyle and save our health. We have to begin to evaluate every food we eat and feed our families.
- Does this food offer me any nutrients for all the sugar, salt or fat that it carries?
- Could I get these nutrients without all that sugar, salt and fat?
- Am I eating enough fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis
- Are all my proteins coming to me loaded with saturated fats?
- Am I eating any peas, beans and nuts?
- Am I getting any Healthy fats in my diet like the Omega3 fats?
As I guide I have been watching protein intake and sources on a daily basis. We begin to lose muscle mass as we age and it is quite easy for you not to have your daily requirement met. When this happens we begin to crave for thing to eat. There is an abundance of processed food quick and easy nice tasty and cheap and loaded with carbohydrates, sugar and fats and not .much else by way of nutrients, that you could munch all day.
Take action, chose wisely.
- Go to farmers market
- Get most of your sugar from nutrient rich fruits
- Get most of your carbohydrates from vegetables. They are loaded with phytonutrients that your body needs.
Don’t let the food industry tell you that it’s lack of exercise that’s making you fat.
Exercise is necessary and important for good health but it is 20% of the plan. The other 80% is nutrition. What you eat is the key.
I make use of Meal Replacement Shake meals which have the right amount of plant based protein, healthy fats, carbohydrates, phytonutrients, minerals and vitamins. I replace at least one meal per day preferably breakfast with this Shake meal. Then I plan all my other meals and snacks to keep me nourished for the day. Truly it’s living day by day. Take all temptation away by having only the right type of food in your grocery, fridge and pantry.
If you are obese it’s not going away overnight. It will take persistent consistent change of your lifestyle.

As I prepare to write my blog today, I am not sure of where to start, but it has to be done to stay consistent and build momentum. So I sit and wait with the keyboard and the blank screen.
Then I am remembering that faced with the challenge of keeping my fitclub members motivated, I have started reading inspirational quotes to them on a weekly basis and it has been working and sparking discussions.
So what better way to way inspire myself and others today than sharing some quotes from my favorite motivational speaker, the late, Jim Rohn:
- There are two ways to face the future. One way is with apprehension; the other is with anticipation.
- If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plans, your plans will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build end up building us.

- Time is our most valuable asset, yet we then to waste it, kill it and spend it rather then invest it.

At the start of the year we set big goals and we are excited at the prospect of a new year and a chance to get it right this time. We make the plans, begin to make the changes and set things in motion to achieve success. We have great anticipation of achieving our goals this year.
Many times it never gets off the paper or get past January. At the first hiccup in the new year the dream gets side tracked as we get into crisis mode and that can carry on for the rest of the year. What seem to determine if we stay on track and not be derailed is our WHY
How badly do we want it?
Is it a burning desires or just a wish?
Are we at the point of total disgust with where we are? Are we where we say, something has to happen now?
The why has to be big enough to drive us into action every day.
Even better is when you are driven by the picture of the end result and you can see yourself there. In your mind’s eye you can see yourself:
-Looking and feeling good when you lose the weight
– In the place you hope to visit and feel as if you are there.
– Living in the home you plan to buy.
A strong why can keep you persistent and consistent.
In other words its now having the mindset to achieve the goal. So how do we get the mindset.
I would say BELIIEVE that you can do it. When you can give thanks for it before you see it, that’s belief. At that point nothing can stop you.You can stay on track and overcome all obstacles.

I have been watching a lot of cricket lately. Recently when one of the bowler delivered a “bad” ball and got hit for four, the commentator said that the bowler was losing his form just before he released the ball and he played the slow motion of the delivery to illustrate his point. He commented that the bowler’s head was leaning too much to the side and that affected his delivery. Now all this got me thinking about my own process. I have been thinking that I have been losing focus, or should I say form, recently and I am going off track with the goals that I have set. We are well into the second 90 day period of the year and its so easy to veer off course especially as the time gets busy. Well its spring time the rains have begun to fall and its time to take out some weeds and nurture the seeds that I have been planting.
One month into the second 90 day period of 2014, it is time to refocus. Should have done it before, but better late than never. I guess this is the time we get derailed from our goals if we are not careful.
So I have gone back to the dream board, which needs updating and refining. I have the the goals for this 90 days in focus. Its do easy to get caught up with doing that you forget to feed the soul in order to sustain the successs. I am definitely losing my form in the regard and must make time to “sharpen the saw”
How do you stay focussed,
I welcome the New Year and I say, let go and let God. What better way to start the New Year! I chose this word “trust” out of my little pan of words some weeks ago and just froze up. I knew what to write for sure but the question was, did I really believe it? Was I acting on it? So, I have been soul searching rather than writing. Truth is I have been working very hard and many times doubting the outcome or holding back because I was not sure.
Immediately I took out the word “trust”, I reached for a book I had read by Bob Proctor “ titled “You were Born Rich.” I went for the Chapter titled, Let go and let God. It’s interesting that, he said reread the chapter 100 times if you need to, it was that important.
It certainly helped me to refocus on what it meant to have faith in God and to the fact that doubt, fear and negative thought only serve to keep you back from reaching your goal. I guess in the process of working through where I really stood on this in a practical way, something must have happened. I stopped stressing and doubting and relaxed and really tried to be more in touch with what the spirit was guiding me to do, in other words, to let Go and let God. Amazing things happened in my business that I could not have predicted. Calls that I did not expect, free radio promotions and sales literally out of the blue. All I had to do was be ready to take advantage of it and I was.
So, I am starting the New Year with this in mind. When all the goal setting and planning is done it will be time to relax, not worry about how am I going to do all this or to doubt the outcome even before I start. Instead, I will move forward with firm faith that no matter what it looks like, in God I can let go because, as we also like to say, “ God is in Charge.”

Burning desire- this is a key ingredient for success. Last week end track athletes Usian Bolt and Shelly Ann Frasier-Price were crowned IAAF Male and Female Athlete of the Year 2013, respectively. A newspaper article of an interview with Shelly Ann caught my attention where she said FEAR was her driving force to succeed. She said her desire to not return to her neighborhood of poverty, crime and violence was what drove her to succeed.
I would not call it fear, but burning desire to succeed. Burning desire it is what gets you up every morning and regardless of how you feel, and you go and do what is required of you that day in order to reach that goal that you have set. Napolean Hill in his book Think and Grow Rich says” Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat. Only by doing so can one be sure to maintain that state of mind known as BURNING DESIRE TO WIN, essential to succeed”
In Shelly Ann’s case with her God given talent and the thought of no return, no retreat to poverty and life in the inner city, it was enough to create burning desire. This then would resulted in her setting some definite goals, planning specific ways of achieving it and working with persistence which did not recognize failure.
Now we set goals and make specific plan to achieve them but many times we fall short within the first 90 days. The missing piece must be the burning desire. If it is just a wish or a nice thing to try we won’t get far. We have to really want it and can think of nothing but the end goal and what it will mean to us to achieve it. Failure is out of the picture and there is no going back.
My mentor Jim Rohn puts it another way when he says to succeed we need either a strong desire to change or total disgust with where we are, doesn’t matter which.
